  • Falling over whilst skating:

Falling over whilst skating may happen. Perhaps quite a few times when you are first learning how to skate.

    • If you are not hurt, please get up as quickly as possible to avoid other skaters falling over you.
      • We practise getting up and down quickly in some of our games.
    • Don’t be embarrassed if you fall.
      • We have all fallen over at some point.
      • Don’t let it make you give up its part of learning how to skate.
    • Staff or other skaters might ask if you are ok if they come past. A quick thumbs up or a smile helps us know you are OK.
    • Learn to fall safely
    • If your child falls over, please do not run or skate across the floor in the wrong direction. This may cause further incident. Be mindful of other skaters and the direction of travel.

  • We are often asked if they can walk their children up and down the walls whilst learning how to skate.

Some children like to feel independent on their skates a prefer to learn to skate on their own without any assistance. For others they feel more confident having a parent holding their hand whilst they start to build their confidence and learn how to balance on skates.

Walking children around the walls during the general skating parts of the session when learning how to skate.

    When learning to skate

    • parents should never walk their children up and down the long walls of the hall during any part of the session.
    • they can walk their children around all the walls as long as they are travelling all around the room in an anti-clockwise direction.

Can children be walked around the walls during the games that are being played when learning how to skate?

Please use the top and bottom walls to sit or stand when spectating. You can walk your child around the walls in an anti-clockwise direction when they are learning to skate, if games are not being played.

    For some games:

    • we ask all skaters and spectators not participating in that game sit down
    • or stand at the top or bottom of the hall.

This is for everybody’s safety. If we ask you to clear the floor we would ask that you abide by the request.

For other games, if your child is not participating we ask parents to:

    • walk their children up and down widthways across the floor outside of the coned off area(s) whilst they are learning.

This keeps the area within the cones clear for all the skaters participating in the games.

You have asked everyone to sit down or keep out of the coned area. Can I walk down the long wall?

To play games swiftly, we ask you don’t walk down the long walls between the cones during gameplay to:

    1. Pop to the toilet
    2. Take your skates back
    3. Help your child skate

We ask this as skaters may be travelling from one wall to the other wall, or may need the whole width of the room to skate for a particular game. We ask this for everyone’s safety and to allow gameplay to happen quickly to allow lots of time for general skating as well.

    • Is skating over 50 too old to be skating or learning to skate at one of your roller discos?

We welcome adults of all ages and abilities. Roller skating is great low impact exercise as well as being fun. If you don’t already exercise or have ongoing or existing medical issues it might be important to seek medical advice before skating.

Learning to skate when you are older – top 4 advantages (external link)

Every skater has the same right to come to our sessions and enjoy themselves. But, we just ask that all our skaters respect everybody else and to skate within their ability.

We have many adults who had never skated before, then started to skate because they were bringing their children regularly and others that hadn’t skated for years and just felt like taking it up again.

Skating over 50 at one of our roller discos is an amazing opportunity to spend time having fun with your children or grandchildren.

If you don’t have a child to bring, or just want to come on your own that’s OK. We have plenty of adult skaters without children to learn to skate or for fun and exercise.

Skating over 50. Is it too old to skate at one or all of your roller discos?

    • We are sometimes asked ‘are my children to young to skate?’

We have skaters as young as two years of age skating regularly at our Rollers Roller Discos. Their skating ability varies greatly depending on how long they have been skating with us and how many roller discos they come to each week. Some of our three years old’s are becoming very competent at forwards and backwards skating.

We have a small number of stomper quads available to hire, which are great beginner quats for young children. Visit our skate hire page to find out more. This is a good option to consider if you don’t want the expense of buying skates for your child to not enjoy it.

My child has never skated before – are my children to young to skate?

You are welcome to walk around the floor with your children when they are first learning to skate. But, ask you to be mindful of other skaters.

All our skaters travel in an anti-clockwise direction around the floor (unless otherwise directed). So we ask you to do them same. Please do not travel up and down the same wall. You are longer travelling in the same anti-clockwise direction as our other skaters.

We have safe areas outside of the cones where you can walk your children up and down during game play. But during general skating please travel anticlockwise around the cones.

    • The entry fee for our roller discos is £6.00 per person, an additional fee of £2.00 is charged per person if they wish to hire skates. This fee is the same for all of our venues.

There are a few exceptions to this. For our Christmas Parties and Halloween Parties at all of our venues will usually attract a slightly higher entrance fee. This helps us cover the costs associated with these parties. We will usually post on social media the fee for a particular event when this does change.

Parents or grandparents who chose not to skate can spectate. We do not charge for parents or grandparents to spectate.

If you change their mind during the session you can pay to skate and hire skates if required.

    • We hire quad skates and blade/inline skates for £2.00 a pair.

    • Yes, we welcome Roller disco spectators at our roller discos. Although skating is great fun for all the family and you are more than welcome to skate.

We do not charge for family members to be roller disco spectators. But charge the normal entrance fee (and skate hire if required) if they choose to skate. Seating is provided at the top and bottom of the halls for family members to spectate. We ask that you don’t sit or leave bags on the long walls to the left and right of the halls. The skaters need these areas to skate.

Parents and grandparents learning to skate again or in many instances learning to skate for the first time are always welcome.

    • We hire skates of various sizes but do encourage you to use your own if you have them.
