Can I walk my children up and down the walls during gameplay as they are learning to skate.

We are often asked if they can walk their children up and down the walls whilst learning how to skate.

Some children like to feel independent on their skates a prefer to learn to skate on their own without any assistance. For others they feel more confident having a parent holding their hand whilst they start to build their confidence and learn how to balance on skates.

Walking children around the walls during the general skating parts of the session when learning how to skate.

When learning to skate

  • parents should never walk their children up and down the long walls of the hall during any part of the session.
  • they can walk their children around all the walls as long as they are travelling all around the room in an anti-clockwise direction.

Can children be walked around the walls during the games that are being played when learning how to skate?

Please use the top and bottom walls to sit or stand when spectating. You can walk your child around the walls in an anti-clockwise direction when they are learning to skate, if games are not being played.

For some games:

  • we ask all skaters and spectators not participating in that game sit down
  • or stand at the top or bottom of the hall.

This is for everybody’s safety. If we ask you to clear the floor we would ask that you abide by the request.

For other games, if your child is not participating we ask parents to:

  • walk their children up and down widthways across the floor outside of the coned off area(s) whilst they are learning.

This keeps the area within the cones clear for all the skaters participating in the games.

You have asked everyone to sit down or keep out of the coned area. Can I walk down the long wall?

To play games swiftly, we ask you don’t walk down the long walls between the cones during gameplay to:

  1. Pop to the toilet
  2. Take your skates back
  3. Help your child skate

We ask this as skaters may be travelling from one wall to the other wall, or may need the whole width of the room to skate for a particular game. We ask this for everyone’s safety and to allow gameplay to happen quickly to allow lots of time for general skating as well.
